Annah Rais Bidayuh Longhouse



3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS


DAY 1

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre – Annah Rais Longhouse: 8:15am – Pick up from the hotel and proceed to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to observe the semi-wild orangutans during feeding time at (9:00am – 10:00am). Over 20 rehabilitated and locally-born orangutans roam this forest reserve, and many still return for extra feeding at the stations.


Continue through paddy fields and pepper farms to Annah Rais Bidayuh Longhouse, a well-preserved Bidayuh (Land Dayak) longhouse. After a traditional lunch, take a guided tour of the longhouse to meet the villagers, experience the longhouse way of life, and learn about local culture. Join the host family for dinner, followed by a wine tasting session of various varieties of the local tuak (rice or fruit wine) and a video presentation on Bidayuh history and culture. Overnight in a family homestay.

DAY 2

Jungle Waterfall & Hot Springs: Breakfast with the Homestay Family. Hike through the tropical rainforest to the spectacular Biduan Waterfall (2 hours), viewing local flora and fauna, fruit trees, rice farms, and cash crops (pumpkin, cucumber, sweet corn, etc.). Along the trail, your experienced local guide will explain the surrounding jungle and how the locals make use of the natural resources. Experience crossing rivers on traditional bamboo bridges. After a cooling swim at the stunning 3-tiered waterfall, enjoy a picnic lunch, then trek back to the longhouse, stopping at the Annah Rais Hot Springs. This natural jungle spa is fed by geothermally heated crystal-clear mountain water, perfect for washing away grime and easing tired muscles. After dinner, enjoy a cultural show with traditional Bidayuh music and dancing, and try your hand at playing the ancient brass gongs and unusual percussion instruments. Overnight in a family homestay.


Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided.


DAY 3

Farm Visit & Farewell: Breakfast with the Homestay Family. Take a short trek to a nearby farm to see local crops like tapioca, yam, ginger, and bananas and to taste the local sugar cane. Return to the longhouse for a farewell lunch with your host family. Proceed to Kuching and drop off at your hotel.
